But what a lovely way to burn! Sorry to Peggy Lee. But Al says our planet has a fever! So could someone please tell me what our planetary "normal" temperature should be? I think Al is full of gas ... or is that zinc being mined from his property?
How is it now that Al's "truth" conveniently fuels his grand socialist agenda? He wants freezes, taxes, market controls and regulations that will certainly mean a massive expansion of government control over the economy. Hmmmm.
Even if Kyoto is fully enacted by all its parties it would reduce global warming by a mere 0.07 degrees Celsius by 2050! Some estimates suggest the U.S. economy would be negatively impacted by as much as $400 Billion per year!
Robert Samuelson reports ...
Most of the many reports on global warming have a different plot. Despite variations, these studies reach similar conclusions. Regardless of how serious the threat, the available technologies promise at best a holding action against greenhouse gas emissions. Even massive gains in renewables (solar, wind, biomass) and more efficient vehicles and appliances would merely stabilize annual emissions near present levels by 2050. The reason: Economic growth, especially in poor countries, will sharply increase energy use and emissions.Ian Murray, senior fellow in Energy, Science and Technology at the Competitive Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C., suggests ...
If you establish that the Earth is warming, it doesn't necessarily follow that we have a moral duty to reduce emissions. What should follow is an informed debate about the costs and benefits of various policies to address that warming - reducing emissions is just one possible answer. Another debate should focus on those policies' economic costs.
Sing it Peggy!
